Located in the northern region of India, Amritsar holds deep historical and spiritual significance. The name “Amritsar” translates to “Holy Pool of Nectar” in Hindi. The sacred pool, which surrounds the Golden Temple, began construction in 1573. As one of India’s most ancient cities, Amritsar stands as the spiritual and cultural heart of Sikhism. It was founded by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das, and remains home to the revered Golden Temple, a global symbol of peace and devotion.

Tour Plan

Day 01 Arrival in Amritsar

Upon arrival in Amritsar, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel for check-in.

Afternoon Excursion:

  • Durgiana Temple: Also referred to as Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Durga Tirath, and Sitla Mandir, this prominent temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is one of the key religious landmarks in Amritsar.

Optional (Time Permitting):

  • Katra Jaimal Singh Market: A bustling local market perfect for shopping traditional Punjabi attire, juttis, and handicrafts.

  • Trilium Mall: A modern shopping complex offering a wide range of retail and dining options.

Day 02 Amritsar Sightseeing

Morning Visit:

  • Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib): Renowned as the holiest shrine for Sikhs, the Golden Temple was constructed by Guru Arjan Dev in the 16th century. Its shimmering gold-plated structure situated in the center of a tranquil sarovar (pool) reflects spiritual harmony and equality. The soothing hymns and sacred atmosphere create a deeply peaceful experience.

  • Gurudwara Baba Atal Rai Sahib: Located within the Golden Temple complex, this nine-storey octagonal tower stands as the tallest structure in Amritsar. Originally built as a cenotaph for Baba Atal Rai, the son of the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind, it has since been transformed into a significant gurdwara.

  • Jallianwala Bagh: A poignant historical site where, on April 13, 1919, British troops opened fire on peaceful protestors. The massacre claimed over 1,100 lives and marked a turning point in India’s struggle for independence. The garden has been preserved as a national memorial to honor those who perished.

  • Explore the bustling local markets surrounding Jallianwala Bagh and the Golden Temple.

Afternoon Visit:

  • Wagah Border Ceremony:
    Depart by 2:00 PM for the Wagah Border to witness the spectacular “Beating the Retreat” ceremony. Vehicles are permitted only up to the parking area, which is 500–700 meters from the venue. Golf carts operated by BSF are available on a first-come, first-served basis for elderly visitors.
    The Wagah Border, marking the international boundary between India and Pakistan, becomes a vibrant stage for patriotic display each evening. The synchronised marching and ceremonial lowering of flags is a stirring and unforgettable experience.

Day 03 Departure from Amritsar

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.
The day is free for leisure activities until your transfer to the airport or railway station for your onward journey.
